Five dielectric radome technology options engineered for the world's most demanding environments

Overview

Dielectric Space Frame Radomes

AFC manufactures five dielectric radome technologies: TM, SL, SFC, CLS, and THS. Selection of the appropriate technology is driven by customer requirements and performance specifications.

From an RF perspective, dielectric radomes function as low-pass filters, with optional single- or multiband band-pass characteristics depending on the selected technology. Integrated R-13 thermal insulation, incorporated during manufacturing, provides approximately a tenfold improvement in overall thermal performance.

These five technologies are primarily differentiated by wall construction and can be applied across spherical, geodesic, silo, and stealth radome geometries. Each panel is manufactured as a single molded piece, eliminating bond lines and seams.

Radome diameters range from 3 feet (0.9 m) to 110 feet (33.5 m), supporting applications including radar, weather radar, air traffic control, telemetry, satellite communications, DSCS, MILSTAR, MET, SBIRS, NOAA, NASA, and receive-only systems.

Advanced Radome Features

Impedance Matching

AFC radomes are offered with Impedance Matched flanges to tune out framework scattering loss for improved transmission loss performance. The impedance matching is customizable depending on the electromagnetic frequencies of interest.

Super-Hydrophobic Coating

AFC's proprietary coating repels water and reduces ice, snow, and debris accumulation for optimal RF performance.

Thermal Insulation

The radomes are offered with R-13 insulation option for exceptional thermal properties especially for extreme climatic conditions.

Structural Analysis

General Buckling criterion ensures appropriate structural safety factors for the lifetime of the radome.

Radome Accessories

Wide range of standard radome accessories are available with all AFC radomes. Standard radome accessories include Aircraft warning light, lightning protection system, Zenith vent, Zenith hatch, Zenith D-ring, Base Cleat, Snow/Maintenance Rope, Personnel Access door, Equipment door, Base hatch, Base vent, Blower system, HVAC system, Panel removal kit, Interior lighting kit, Utility outlet kit, Security lighting, Egress lighting, Internal lifting point, Intrusion alarm system, Fire alarm system, Radome lifting kit, Panel repair kit, and radome spare panel kit. Custom-built radome accessories can be designed and fabricated to meet the customer's needs as well.

Foundation Interface Compatibility

AFC radomes can be installed on existing foundations with the legacy radomes that require replacement. This eliminates the need for a new foundation by either customizing the radome truncation and base subpanels to match the existing bolt locations or using an adapter interface between the foundation and the radome base.

AFC offers a comprehensive range of standard radome sizes from 0.9m to 33.5m equatorial diameter. Custom sizes and configurations are available to meet specific project requirements.
